About SCMSDC
Overview
Southern California Minority Supplier Development Council (SCMSDC) is the largest nonprofit minority business advocacy organization in the region, representing the interests of more than 600,000 Minority Business Enterprises (MBEs), serving 1,500 SCMSDC-Certified MBEs and 300 corporate members throughout a 13-county service area.
SCMSDC is one of 37 regional councils in the National Minority Supplier Development Council (NMSDC) network.
Mission
SCMSDC's mission is "to be the premiere organization strengthening economic ties between large, public-, private- and foreign-owned corporations and minority men- and women-owned business enterprises.”
The council aims to achieve this by providing:

- Recognition of outstanding commitment and performance in purchasing goods and services from diverse businesses by corporate members and certified minority-owned businesses

Organizational Overview
SCMSDC consists of:
HISTORY
1969
|
Los Angeles Chamber of Commerce organizes the first “Minority Business Opportunity Day” (MBOD) Trade Fair. A “handful” of representatives from major corporations/government agencies and a small group of minority entrepreneurs attended.

1975
|
Los Angeles Chamber of Commerce and the Minority Enterprise Coalition of Los Angeles creates the Southern California Regional Purchasing Councils (SCRPC), the only multi ethnic minority advocacy group

Orange County Purchasing Council established

1999
|
SCRPC forms the Central Valley Business Development Council to carry out its mission in the five-county area of Fresno, Kings, Kern, Tulare and Inyo

2003

SCRPC name change to the Southern California Minority Business Development Council (SCMBDC)."Our organization has evolved from one that focused almost solely on helping to increase corporate purchases from minority businesses to one that still embraces its founding purpose but now more broadly helps minority businesses grow and prosper,” he said.
