They’re problem solvers, bringing innovative and cost-effective solutions. Nimble and flexible, they respond quickly to customer requests. They add value and get things done.
These are the hallmarks of entrepreneurs at their best, and on July 25, you can meet these elite suppliers who are competing for prestigious local SCMSDC Supplier of the Year awards.
Sponsored by American Honda Motor Co. for the 28th straight year, the annual celebration – to be held at the Hyatt Regency Long Beach — recognizes top-performing suppliers for their outstanding partnerships with corporate members.
“It’s a tremendous honor to be nominated for a Supplier of the Year award,” according to SCMSDC President Virginia Gomez, noting “only three percent of our total SCMSDC-certified MBEs get nominated, making all nominees winners in their own right.”
Established by the National Minority Supplier Development Council (NMSDC), corporate members nominate certified MBEs in good standing with the council to compete within their class category for an award.
Nominees are judged by an award selection committee composed of SCMSDC corporate members and evaluated on their demonstrated growth and development; employment and job creation; consistent high-quality operations, products/services and business performance; procurement/purchasing spend with MBEs; mentoring and other forms of assistance to MBEs; regional council involvement, and more.
One winner is selected in each class category based on annual sales. Class categories are tiered according to revenue: suppliers with less than $1 million (Class I); under $10 million (Class II); under $50 million (Class III) and $50 million and greater (Class IV).
Local winners receive scholarships to advanced management programs in highly recognized institutions such as Tuck at Dartmouth University, USC, and UCLA. They also receive special recognition and go on to the regional Supplier of the Year award competition. If selected as regional winners, they move on to compete for the national competition for the NMSDC Supplier of the Year award.
Make plans to join us at the awards celebration – it’s a great opportunity to cheer on and support exemplary minority entrepreneurs, network with corporate members and MBEs and hear honorees’ inspiring stories and keys to success.
