Richard Hazel

Richard Hazel joined the team at SCMSDC as Vice President of Operations in September 2021. Within the Executive team, he oversees activity alignment within the organization involving people, business strategy, technology, processes, and systems. His role supports organizational readiness for the development and implementation of effective strategies and efficient systems approaches that can help our current and future goals.

Before this, he served with the American Red Cross National Headquarters overseeing the management of a multistate Federal grant program for National and Local Community Preparedness & Emergency Response. While there, he also served within the Information Management and Situational Awareness Unit, supporting operational coordination activities during major disaster events. Richard has worked with the Commonwealth of Virginia’s Department of Emergency Management, overseeing multi-county portfolios of first responder and emergency support agencies subawarded Federal funding for Homeland Security and Emergency Management Performance. Most recently, he served with the Florida Department of Health as a Public Health Preparedness Manager.

Richard is an alumnus of The George Washington University School of Engineering & Applied Science with a Master of Science in Engineering Management with a Crisis, Emergency, and Risk Management focus area.
